Grand Slam Of Grace

Our 7 year old little league baseball team got a huge lesson in Grace last night – one man's decision set a huge example. We had 4 boys either out sick or doing other things last night which left us with 7 players.

I walked across the field to visit with the other team's coach to announce the bad news thinking we were going to have to forfeit the game. The other coach's statement left me completely refreshed. He said – hey, we'll play straight up. We can't punish your kids because a couple of them are sick. Let them play.

I asked if we would have to take an out or two in the lineup for the kids that were missing and he said no. He said, we'll play you straight up. Let's have some fun! So we played an amazing game that went right down to the wire last night. But the scoreboard didn't have a thing to do with what really happened on that field.
A tremendous measure of grace was shown when it didn't have to be. People harvest what they plant. That was an amazing lesson in grace for our kids. Grace being getting something we don't deserve. Last night was a grand slam of grace. I'm praying I can extend that same grace in my walk today.
