Man, That's Why We're Here

Life is full of big and little "wow" moments. This was one of those little ones that generated an ear to ear grin for this increasingly spiritual dad. I had taken my two boys Colby, 10, and Collin, 6, out fishing last weekend. We had been fishing at one of our honey holes for about 2 hours with only about 4 fish to show for our time. It's a good thing we weren't fishing for dinner because God had other plans.
It's such a cool feeling as a dad to know that your little boys gravitate toward you. For the entire two hours that we had been fishing, the guys kept following me up and down the bank of the lake. Fortunately, I didn't wind up with a hook in my hand this time. :-) We'd watch a few little alligators swimming a few feet from the bank and keep easing on down the bank away from the little eating machines.
It didn't take long for the boys to notice that we weren't catching as many fish as we usually do. Naturally the complaints were flying faster than they could cast. That's when I looked up from the lake to notice one of the most beautiful sunsets I'd ever seen.

I snapped this picture with my phone as a reminder that God gave me that opportunity to forget about fishing and focus on his handiwork. My jaw dropped when I realized I wasn't at that lake fishing for largemouth. I was there fishing for men. Specifically, the two little men on that lake bank. A radio friend of mine reminded me that someday God will ask us: 1. What did you do with the family I gave you? 2. What did you do with my son? Got your answers ready?
