The Boogie Board

I read a good chunk of the book of Job this morning and was overwhelmed again at the power of our God. After 9 days of dreary, depressing weather, He blessed us with a beautiful snow shower. Seeing how our little corner of the world came to life this morning to celebrate in the snow was pretty cool.

In my quiet time this morning, I was searching the Bible app on my phone for verses with the word “snow” in them. There were two verses from Job that caught my attention, so I flipped over and quickly found myself caught up in reading chapters 30-40 in Job. In that part of the book, we’re reminded that wisdom doesn’t necessarily come with age.

If you start around chapter 32, Job is being somewhat self-righteous. He is trying to justify his misfortune by pouring his heart out to 3 of his close friends in hopes one of them would give him something he could hold on to. They all offered their opinions about his situation with not one piece of solid truth. Until a young man named Elihu spoke up and poured out the simple truth straight from God’s word.

He said, ” God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’ So that everyone he has made may know his work, he stops all people from their labor.” (Job 37:5-7)

The lightbulb came on for me early this morning when I saw a facebook picture of my 7 year old neighbor Coleman who was pulling his little sister through the snow on a boogie board tied behind his bike. Suddenly, I realized that over the last 9 days while I’ve been hurling around complaints about the weather, God had a plan. I’ve been avoiding a major decision this week and now I’m fully aware that God just wanted me to stop what I was doing and listen to Him.

We’re all that little kid being pulled behind God’s bike on the boogie board through the snow. It’s up to us to just hold on and enjoy the ride rather than complain about the scenery. Make it a great day!

Great snow verses:
As heat and drought snatch away the melted snow, so the grave snatches away those who have sinned. Job 24:19

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow, though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:7

God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’ So that everyone he has made may know his work, he stops all people from their labor. Job 37:5-7
