The Silver Lining

During breaking news events on my radio show, sometimes I miss the silver lining of the story at first glance. That was the case this morning with the oil tanker explosion in Gluckstadt. Fortunately, I have a couple of friends in Madison County law enforcement that tipped me off to the miracle that happened this morning.
At about 1am, an oil tanker crashed near Gluckstadt Road on I-55 northbound. The tanker exploded on impact. You may have seen the pictures all over TV and social media this morning. What I just learned is that by the grace of God, the cab of the truck separated from the tanker trailer prior to impact. My friend said it was as if someone lifted the cab up and moved it away from the tanker.
When the tanker exploded, the cab of the truck was far enough away that it spared the driver’s life! He was taken to a local hospital with some minor injuries but defied death! I’m hopeful this man uses his story to inspire other people around him in the coming days.
I’m even more hopeful that the driver has a relationship with the living God. In Psalm 91:3-4 it says, “Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
Tim Tebow said in his book Through My Eyes, “I don’t know what my future holds, but I do know who holds my future.” Are we ready for what blows up today? No. But at least if things do fall apart, we can rest in the truth that God is our shield and rampart.
