There's Work To Do
by Scott Steele,posted Jan 27 2012 10:39AM
Recently, several families I know lost sons in a tragic car wreck. Sam Clayton Kelly, Mason Wilbanks, and Walker Kelly are living in grand style in Heaven today. Since their call to Heaven, God has really been working in lives of people they touched during their brief 19 year stay on Earth. I got a really cool email today from my friend Ken Wilbanks who told me that their family has been invited to Oxford tomorrow for the Kappa Alpha fraternity initiation banquet. During the banquet, all three boys will be officially initiated as members of the Kappa Alpha Order because their academic requirements were met in order for them to be officially recognized as members. Just hearing that the fraternity made that gesture to continue to come alongside the families warmed my heart.
One of my radio brothers who I hope to meet someday lost a child several years ago. An unbelievable tragedy happened to Rick Burgess and his precious son Bronner four years ago. I was reading Rick's newsletter this morning and he ended his amazing letter with this:
"I have struggled more missing him this year and there are days when the separation from him hits me like a sledge hammer to the point that I am rendered helpless to continue on, but that's when the comfort that only comes from total dependence on my sweet savior kicks in and I continue on to be a husband to my wife, a father to my children who remain with me, a host of a show who depends on me and most importantly a walking talking testimony of thanks to a GOD who has shown me great mercy. It's not forever son, the reunion is coming but in the meantime there is work to be done."
I'm off to work Ken. I'm off to work Rick! God bless you guys. Thanks for your incredible inspiration in my life.
