Guard Your Heart
I was talking to my friend Justin Barnard yesterday about the scandal involving General Petraeus. He mentioned that Petraeus probably would’ve been considered one of the top military strategists in American history. Right up there with generals Pershing, Eisenhower, Patton, and Schwartzkopf.

He could help defend an entire nation from terrorists but he couldn’t defend his heart. I’m certainly not one to talk because I’m about as broken as they come, but the general’s story has really reminded me that I have a responsibility to continue to do a better job as a man, husband, father, employee, friend, and believer.

I don’t know about you, but I think we all have to recognize what’s going on in our country and step up and take a stand for what we believe in. More importantly, we have to call people out when we see things that aren’t right. We have to do a better job of guarding our hearts.

Like my friend Justin said, Petraeus did to himself what the Taliban couldn’t – bring him down. Here are a couple of great Biblical reminders for the day. Proverbs 4:23: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” 2 Chronicles 20:15: “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the battle is not yours but God’s.”
