It's a phrase you hear all too often at Batson Children's Hospital: "We never thought we would be the ones that needed the hospital," said Stacy Horton. Richard and Stacy's 8 year old daughter Radyn had heart surgery here on Monday. Six weeks from now, she'll be back to full participation with her cheerleading squad. Tumbling included.
Radyn was born with 2 doors in her heart instead of three, a byproduct of Aortic Stenosis. After the initial diagnosis at Batson when she was 3 days old, the Horton's were faced with knowing that Radyn would one day face open heart surgery. "We started to explore the options for open heart surgery and there were really only two options for us. We either had to go to Philadelphia, or Detroit," said Richard Horton.
Fast forward 8 years has a pair of world class pediatric heart surgeons. Dr. Jorge Salazar and Dr. Daniel DiBardino now provide the expertise necessary to fix hearts here at home. "What God gave Radyn is better than anything I can give her," said Dr. DiBardino in the lobby of the hospital today. "We used a piece of her tissue to build a third door in her heart to allow her heart to function normally."
After an 8 hour operation on Monday, Radyn's prognosis is nothing short of a miracle. This is all because of YOUR generosity and constant support of Batson Children's Hospital. You can pledge by calling 601-984-5437 or online at www.us963.com.
