Christmas With The King Of Kings

There are so many different things to think about after yesterday’s tragedy in Connecticut:
The first responders who had no idea what they would be facing when they got to the scene. They just went and did their jobs.
The teachers, staff, and faculty at the school that saved a countless number of lives by their instinctual heroism turning kids away from the situation.
The people that will be involved now in the grief process alongside the families and the fact that the school may never be re-opened again because of the memories in those hallways.
The feeble although greatly needed quotation of scripture by the President of the United States. What if this event causes something in our president’s heart to change and realize he should fear God instead of a fiscal cliff?
That what we here on Earth call victims are now in the presence of the greatest Christmas celebration anyone will ever see -- getting to spend Christmas with the King of Kings.
The number of verses of scripture that you’ve heard a hundred times that just automatically come pouring back out of you.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. (Psalm 23:4)
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. (Deut. 31:8)
Then young women will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness, I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow. (Jeremiah 31:13)
Cast your cares upon the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. (Psalm 55:22)
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me. (Psalm 138:7)
Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid, just believe.” (Mark 5:36)
Shout for joy, you heavens, rejoice you earth; burst into song, you mountains! For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones. (Isaiah 49:13)
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. (Psalm 30:5)
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)
Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. (Isaiah 46:4)
But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again because the Lord sustains me. (Psalm 3:3-5)
You can’t help but wonder if the United States isn’t reaping what its sown. Prayer was taken out of schools in the 70’s and I can’t help but think that the lack of morals in schools, workplaces, and homes hasn’t come back to rear its ugly head.
Remember – we’ve read the last chapter. We know who wins! God doesn’t call us to ask why. He calls us to be faithful.
