Ridgeland residents will receive a new smart recycling cart from the City of Ridgeland in September, by October 1. The wheeled cart will hold 64 gallons of mixed recyclables, allowing for higher volumes to be collected. A radio frequency identification tag will be embedded in the cart, recording that the customer recycled and transmitting that information to Recycle Bank, where reward points are calculated. Pictured here is a prototype of the cart with Mike McCollum, Director of Public Works, City of Ridgeland.
