* The State Joint Information Center is activated and the call center is open for the general public to ask questions regarding Tropical Storm Isaac. The public should call the following number: 1-866-519-6362 (toll free).

* The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency today announced the 2-1-1 hotline is open to provide general information to Mississippians affected by Hurricane Isaac. The phone line, operated by the United Way, offers information on assistance, shelters, transportation, volunteering and other storm-related information.

* Evacuees and residents from Louisiana should call 866-472-8265 for Mississippi information.

* The City of Madison has unveiled a new text messaging alert system for the storm. Residents can opt-in to receive information on flooding, power outages, gas shortages, shelters, volunteer opportunities and storm alerts. Text STORM to 601-707-8356.

* The MS Gaming Commission has ordered gulf coast casinos to be evacuated and closed by 4p on 8/28.
