New South Radio, Inc. Outreach Programs:
Tom Sellers, a student at Hinds Community College, Utica served as an intern at New South Radio, Inc. from August 20, 2015 through October 23, 2015. Tom worked with all four stations listed above. Some of his duties included: recording and coding network spots for barter; writing, editing, and producing commercials for sales; training for board operations and attending sales seminars.
Tom was very eager to learn and said he greatly enhanced his learning with New South Radio, Inc. He enjoyed the practical hands on aspect of the internship.
New South Radio, Inc. worked closely with Mississippi College’s Communications Department to find a recipient for the scholarship program. The qualifications include resume, GPA, and the students expressed interest in Broadcasting.
This year’s recipient was Victoria White. Her interest to work in radio started when she read a book as a child where the main character was a radio morning show host. During her classes in Broadcasting, she has learned about radio and television. She has learned she prefers radio rather than television. She feels that working in radio is fun and rewarding. She loves the idea that she can make an impact in people’s lives even if it’s just a few minutes while they are listening to the radio in their car. She looks forward to learning more about the radio industry and hopefully someday working as a radio personality.
